Our Welcome To Sanford Teacher of the Week is Whitney Testa of Lee Early College. Mrs. Testa teaches high school math (math 2 and 3), as well as College 171 and 172 Support. She has been a part of the Cobra family for the entirety of her 7.5-year teaching career. Mrs. Testa is also the Math Club and Prom Committee Advisor. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Mathematics Education and a Master of Arts in Secondary Mathematics Education from East Carolina University.
Mrs. Testa’s sums up her teaching philosophy this way, “Students need to be engaged and motivated in order to learn. Therefore, every day I bring my passion for mathematics into the classroom to inspire students. I frequently do hands-on activities where students work collaboratively in a real-world setting. I set high expectations for students and help them achieve their goals by creating a positive and encouraging atmosphere.”
The teaching accomplishment that Mrs. Testa is proudest of is being chosen as the Lee Early College Teacher of the Year two times in her career. “I was especially honored because I work with amazing teachers and they were the ones who selected me to represent them.”
Her colleagues at school use words such as “energetic,” “team-oriented” and “organized” to describe Mrs. Testa. When she isn’t in the classroom, Mrs. Testa enjoys cooking new recipes and traveling with her family and friends in her free time.
