Turn A Page Toward Summer Fun At Lee County Libraries

Summer is a great time for kids and families at the Lee County Libraries. The Sanford branch has special programs for children nearly every day throughout the summer, on subjects including history, art and science. You can visit the library’s online calendar here to see when programs are taking place for various age groups.

This summer’s kids theme is Libraries Rock! From now through July 28, children can earn prizes as a reward for the books they read. It’s easy to participate and fun to get prizes from local sponsors, including Yarborough’s Ice Cream, the Durham Bulls, SweetFrog and the YMCA. Students register at either library branch — Sanford or Broadway. They fill out their reading log, which is based on a bingo format. When they’ve completed enough reading to fill out their sheet, they can claim a prize from the library prize list. There’s no limit to the number of times a child can complete a form and earn rewards. Here’s more information on the Summer Reading program.

In addition to the summer reading program, there are so many other things to do at the Lee Country Libraries. The system is connected with the NCKids digital library, which provides local children with access to thousands of children’s ebooks, audiobooks and steaming movies. It’s all free with the use of your library card!

The county library system itself has over 25,000 items like books, audio books, DVDs and magazines for children and teens, as well as story times for young children, and computer access for children aged 3-to-12. It’s an easy, affordable way to learn and have fun during summer and throughout the year.
