Travis Adkison – West Lee Middle School

Our Welcome To Sanford Lee County Teacher of the Week is Travis Adkison of West Lee Middle School. Mr. Adkison is a 6-8 grade health and physical education and eighth-grade social studies teacher. He has taught at West for three of his eight-year teaching career, but only recently took on eighth-grade social studies in addition to health and P.E.

Mr. Adkison holds a bachelor’s degree in history and an Med in secondary education from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania. In addition to teaching at West Lee, he is also the football coach, a first responder, Assistant Athletic Director, a member of the School Leadership Team, Exploratory Co-Chair and Safety Committee Chair.

The objective of Mr. Adkison’s classes is to facilitate students in order to be ready for the next level. He strives to help students become their best selves, both mentally and physically, so that they will be successful citizens in the future. The quote he lives by is “I’m not trying to achieve levels of success that impress others, but levels that impress me.” Mr. Adkison uses that quote in his classes because all too often students get stuck in the mindset that they must conform to the ideals of their environments. So he encourages students to dream big, but to also work through any obstacles they encounter to achieve their goals for themselves.

When he isn’t teaching, Mr. Adkison loves to travel the world and to get outdoors as much as possible. He is also a firefighter.
