Our Welcome To Sanford Teacher of the Week is West Lee Middle School‘s Travis Adkison. Mr. Adkison is a member of the school’s Health & PE Department and was recognized this past spring as West’s 2017-18 Teacher of the Year. He has a BS in History, a minor in Political Science and East Asian Studies, and a Masters in Secondary Education, all awarded at Pennsylvania’s Slippery Rock University.
Mr. Adkison was motivated to become a teacher by his mother, who dreamed of being an English teacher. He steadfastly worked his way up the ranks beginning in 2008, as a substitute teacher, long-term sub, teacher assistant, certified teacher, and finally serving in administration and educational leadership. Mr. Adkison is also a fully certified firefighter and EMT, mentors young teachers and serves as West’s head football coach.
A recognized and admired leader at his school, Mr. Adkison works from a basic philosophy each day, noting that his role is to serve students. “Do whatever it takes to assist them in being as successful as they can.”
