The Fairview Dairy Bar, this week’s Welcome to Sanford Business of the Week, has Lee County roots going back as far as the early twentieth century. In 1927, Lee County native Philip “Phil” Chaffin Yarborough founded Fairview dairy, delivering glass bottles of fresh milk to the local community.
After a fire destroyed the Fairview Dairy barn and pasteurization building, Phil moved the business to downtown Sanford to start over. In Summer of 1935, Phil opened the original Fairview Dairy Bar serving milk and their signature ice cream to the public. In the years after, Fairview continued to deliver milk to local school, restaurants and grocery stores.
Then in 1954, the current location of The Fairview Dairy Bar on Carbonton Road and Carthage Street was opened. The Dairy Bar has been a Sanford institution ever since, offering a comfortable, tasty diner experience for over 65 years.
After a fire severely damaged the restaurant in 2014, it reopened in early 2015 and continued to offer its classic breakfast, lunch, dinner, and of course 16 flavors of ice cream and more!
The Fairview Dairy Bar is currently offering takeout and delivery, and their dining room is open 7 days a week from 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM. You can view their full menu on their website and then call in at 919-775-5721 for takeout or delivery, or dine in!
