Big Bloomers Flower Farm, Gross Farms and Douglas Farms
With all of the Spring rain, May heat and verdant greenery, it seems that Spring has officially sprung in Central North Carolina! Today we will be looking at a few businesses in Sanford which offer fresh produce and flowers to plant in your garden!
Earlier this year we covered Big Bloomers Flower Farm. They’re well into their peak season now, and they’re still open! They stress that you respect social distancing rules when you are visiting, and suggest coming Monday – Thursday from 8:30 – 10:30 AM or 3:30 – 5:30 PM to make it easier to social distance. They are open for their normal hours, 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM on Saturday and 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM on Sunday. Visit their Facebook page for updates. As always they’re featuring some of their favorite plants multiple times a week!
It’s peak strawberry season throughout May, and there are a lot of great places in and around Sanford to get some fresh berries!
Gross Farms is known for their corn maze and Pumpkin patch as well as their strawberries! Head to their location at 1606 Picket Road in Sanford to pick up some fresh strawberries and asparagus while supplies last. Gross Farms is typically open Monday through Saturday from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, but make sure to check their Facebook page or call them at 919-498-6727 to make sure they have produce in stock!
Douglas Farms is also selling Strawberries throughout May. Douglas Farms has two locations, one at 4162 Hwy 87 Olivia, and one off of US Hwy 1 Tramway. When available, Douglas farms has prepicked strawberries for sale, or you can pick your own! They typically open at 8:00 AM, but make sure to check their Facebook page for updates, as they may be closed depending on supply. Both locations are closed today, Monday May 4th while they wait for more berries to ripen.
Picking berries or planting a garden can be a great activity alone or with your family. Remember to stay safe and get some exercise and sun this week!
