This Monday the Welcome to Sanford Business of the Week column is honored to celebrate Stanley’s Home Center, a business which has been in Sanford for over 40 years!
Stanley’s Home Center was opened by Burton and Dorothy Stanley in June of 1975 on the corner of Steele and Carthage street. Stanley’s Home Center was originally part of the Western Auto chain of stores, but when Sears acquired Western Auto they continued selling furniture, appliances, electronics and outdoor equipment under the Stanley’s Home Center name.
Today, Stanley’s Home Center is located in Sanford on Wicker Street. They take pride in their large selection of Magnolia and Bassett home furniture, rugs and accessories furniture as well as televisions, appliances and hardware. In 2019, they opened opened Sense and Scentsibility, a store located right next to Stanley’s Home Center which sells Magnolia fragrances, bath and body and other health and beauty products.
Through the hard work of Burton and Dorothy Stanley, Stanley’s Home Center has remained a fixture of downtown Sanford for decades. In 2015, Burton Stanley was honored by the Lee County Chamber of Commerce as the Small Business Person of the Year. Upon retiring in 2015, his daughter Karen Stanley took the reigns of the business.
Born in raised in Sanford, Karen believes that there is no better place to do business.
“I spent a few years travelling all over the country with my previous career in nursing, but I can honestly say that there is no place like home. The people here are truly amazing!”
Stanley’s Home Center has supported local schools and churches throughout their history. Visit Stanley’s Home Center and Sense & Scentsibility to find gifts big and small for your friends and family!
