This week’s Welcome To Sanford Teacher of the Week is Shiella Hargrove, ELA Teacher at West Lee Middle School. Mrs. Hargrove is in her second year of teaching at WLMS and she was recently recognized as West Lee Middle School Beginner Teacher of the Year for the 2019-20 school year. A native of the Philippines, Mrs. Hargrove has Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education, with a major in English from the Philippine Normal University.
Mrs. Hargrove’s passion for education comes from her personal background, with a family filled with teachers. As she notes, “I have witnessed first-hand the tremendous impact a teacher has on their students. I became a teacher in the hopes of positively influencing my students the way I was influenced by my teachers. I became a teacher because I wanted to provide my students with more than just classroom knowledge, but a basis and respect for learning, growth and curiosity they will carry for the rest of their lives.”
Mrs. Hargrove’s interests are wide-ranging. In addition to being a dedicated NC State Wolfpack fan, she loves cooking, travelling and Broadway shows. Phantom of the Opera is her all-time favorite. In her previous career, Mrs. Hargrove was a chef and pastry chef for a good while.
Needless to say, Mrs. Hargrove loves teaching and the opportunity to work with students, commenting “I am so happy to have what I believe as the best job in the world, working side-by-side with the best people in the industry.”
