The City of Sanford continues over 3 decades of nationally-recognized participation in the National Night Out program, with a series of activities taking place between July 26 and the official event on Tuesday August 1. NNO helps local citizens make stronger connections with local law enforcement agencies; allowing them to support local anti-crime programs and enhance crime prevention awareness. The series of activities are a great way for residents to meet and interact with local police officers, fire fighters and city officials.
Sanford has been involved in NNO every year since 1994 and has received national recognition for its level of participation each year. In 2015 and 2016 Sanford finished second in the nation for its population size, and placed third nationally in 2014. There are plenty of activities taking place in neighborhoods and throughout the day on NNO Day, including a Cone With A Cop event for kids at the Sanford Dairy Queen, and appearances for Lee County Sheriff’s Office personnel at over a dozen locations.
In addition to the official day’s festivities, the city has two additional program on it calendar, a Safety Lunch For Seniors on July 26 and a fun-filled Community Play Day on July 29 that allows kids the opportunity to play with Sanford’s Police Officers.
