Sandy Scott, WCWS

Our latest Welcome To Sanford Artist of the Week is Sandy Scott, WCWS. A member of the Sanford Brush and Palette Club, Artist League of the Sandhills, Arts Council of Moore County, as well as the National Watercolor Society, Sandy is internationally recognized as a pioneer in the genre of alcohol inks painting. Her works have been featured in fine art galleries, public gathering areas, private collections and corporate offices & buildings, including the American Association of Orthodontists.

An artist with over 3 decades of accomplishments, Sandy began her work by focusing primarily in watercolors and oils, before expanding her focus to alcohol inks. Sandy’s painting style is extremely diverse. Although she bases her work with an impressionist technique, her paintings range effortlessly from traditional to abstract. Her trademark interpretive ink lines help to introduce striking tone and texture into her paintings.

Sandy has been able to parlay her talents into extensive travel opportunities and the ability to conduct workshops in alcohol inks and watercolors. Closer to home, Sandy has been an instructor and workshop artist at the Artist League of the Sandhills in Aberdeen since 2006. A few weeks ago, Sandy was also the featured artist at the May meeting of the Sanford Brush and Palette Club, where she instructed attendees on the technique for working with ink on canvas. Her Poppy Fields painting (featured below) has been featured locally in the Miller Art Gallery at the Mann Center of North Carolina.

Sandy was honored as the Brush and Palette Club’s Artist of the Year in 2009. She has won several awards at the club’s annual art shows, as well as in juried competitions on a regional and national basis.
