Samuel Lahr – Bragg Street Academy

Our Welcome To Sanford Teacher of the Week is Samuel Lahr, middle and high school science teacher at Bragg Street Academy. Mr. Lahr has been part of the Bulldog family for five years of his seven-year teaching career. He holds an Associate of Science from Fayetteville Technical Community College, a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with an emphasis in science (K-8) from Grand Canyon University and a Masters in Science Curriculum and Instruction from Concordia University-Portland.

In addition to teaching at BSA, Mr. Lahr is also involved with the school’s Science/Recycling Club, Earth Day Projects and the Greenhouse Project.

Throughout Mr. Lahr’s career as an educator, he has continued to believe that all students can learn and have the potential to become successful. “Within the classroom, I strive to make the room a comfortable, energetic and a safe place to learn where students also understand rules are necessary, important and followed. Since working at Bragg Street, I have come to understand the importance of character education and building a positive relationship with students. These two pieces of the big puzzle have the greatest potential for a positive impact on a young person’s life.”

If you asked Mr. Lahr what he considers to be the accomplishment he’s proudest of, he would tell you that bringing the PepsiCo Recycling Program to Bragg Street is it. “This was something that I looked into the beginning of last school year and thought it would make a positive impact to our school. Since the launch, we have students thinking more about what they throw away, and rewards have added so much to the school. The rewards have given us a sign for the front office, a flat screen TV for meetings and plants and tools for the school garden. We also placed in the national contest and won $1,000 for a greenhouse for Bragg Street.”
