Business Programs, Policies & Procedures

One of the many great things about the Sanford-Lee County business community is that everyone here is truly invested in the success of all.

With tax credits, business incentives, employee recruitment & training partnerships, dedicated business associations, county and state development sector initiatives and much more, it’s not an exaggeration to say that every business owner and operator has a fully engaged support team that can help out every step of the way.

Here is a sampling of programs, procedures and processes of value to local business owners and operators.

Building Improvement Grants are available for businesses and property owners that are interested in property improvements in historic downtown Sanford that meet certain criteria.

Businesses in Lee County may also qualify for packages, funding and credits, depending on their specific goals and requirements.  This link provides more information about these program and processes.

Historic buildings in North Carolina are eligible for a 20% state tax credit and a 20% federal investment tax credit for rehabilitations of income-producing properties.  The Downtown Sanford website explains the program, links to the map of national register districts, and has more information about the program from the state and federal government.

The Lee County Small Business Center, affiliated with Central Carolina Community College, offers no-cost counseling and business coaching, as well as access to training, growing companies and many other resources.  The SBC can be a perfect partner for business start-ups and entrepreneurs.

The Lee County JobReady Partnership Council is a grassroots organization that supports career and technical education in middle and high schools. The council is affiliated with Lee County Schools and works closely in partnership with Central Carolina Community College, Lee County Economic Development and other local organizations.

The North Carolina Employment Security Commission has comprehensive services and resources for potential employers and employees, including a job posting service.

The North Carolina Military Business Center (NCMBC) is a business development entity of the North Carolina Community College System that leverages military initiatives and other federal business opportunities to expand the economy, grow jobs and improve quality of life in North Carolina.

Lee County was approved for a State Development Zone in 2000. Companies who locate or expand their businesses in the designated State Development Zone can receive additional tax credits. This link explains this program in greater detail.

The City of Sanford has developed information to help new businesses grow and flourish in the area.  This link leads to roughly 20 different organizations, agencies and resources that can streamline the process.

The City of Sanford, Town of Broadway and Lee County also have website pages with comprehensive lists of government services, employees and elected officials.
