Lee County and Sanford are exploring the possibility of creating a new park in the area near Kiwanis Family Park in downtown Sanford. The idea for a new park came from a $2 million bond that is meant to invest in neighborhood parks that are in between five to ten acres.
Vic Czar, the Sanford’s director of public works, asked the county to consider partnering with the city to find a new piece of land to help build a park. The proposed land is at Kiwanis Family Park along Wicker Street and parallel to the park’s entrance driveway. Czar hopes that the city could develop the land up to eight acres and make it one of the more attractive desires in Sanford.
City officials view this addition of a new, neighborhood park as a positive and thrilling “gateway” to the city’s downtown.
