Local government officials have moved one step closer to formal approval for construction of a 105 room Fairfield Inn & Suites complex near the intersection on Hawkins Avenue and the US 1 Bypass. According to City of Sanford Zoning Administrator Amy McNeill, the project developer has a likely green light to proceed, once they’ve made provisions for getting a waterline to the location.
The Sanford-Lee County Technical Review Committee reviewed the first submission from developer East Coast Hospitality, LLC at its May meeting. The proposal calls for construction of the local area’s first Fairfield property. Fairfield hotels are part of the Marriott organization. Permitting, construction and opening would all be contingent on how quickly the zoning approval is completed. Prompt approval is anticipated.
This development is the latest in a series of promising announcements and activities that are likely to help grow the US 1 Bypass corridor north and west of the city of Sanford. With existing corporations in the immediate area, such as Pfizer, Caterpillar and GKN Driveline, progress on the Moncure Megasite on the Lee County border, an anticipated new terminal for the Raleigh Executive Jetport, and projected hotels and dining for the area, the pieces are coming together for robust regional growth in the foreseeable future.
