Michele Cox – Broadway Elementary School

Our latest Welcome To Sanford Lee County Teacher of the Week is Michele Cox of Broadway Elementary School. Ms. Cox is the school Literacy Specialist at Broadway, where she has spent 21 years of her 26-year teaching career. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Campbell University and a Master of Education in Reading Education. Ms. Cox takes pleasure in teaching at an elementary school that she attended as a child

Ms. Cox loves helping her students to become successful readers, and sees reading skills as an important foundation for learning. She comments, ” I am excited to have the opportunity to teach my children. It is my goal to provide each student in our class with the opportunity to develop to their fullest potential. Every day is filled with opportunities to learn and grow. I hope to instill a love of reading in each child. I want my students to enjoy reading and become life-long readers. I also have high expectations for my students. There is nothing like seeing a student accomplish a goal that at first they could not reach.”

Among the teaching accomplishments that Ms. Cox is proudest of, was her recognition as Broadway Elementary Teacher of the Year for the 2000-2001 school year. Ms. Cox also received the Sallie Mae First Class Teacher Award in 1994, in her first year of teaching. Ms. Cox believes that her colleagues would describe her as organized and always willing to help, noting “I do pride myself on being organized. Also, I feel like Broadway is ‘my school’ and I try to help in any way possible to make our school more successful. The staff at Broadway feels like a family and we work together well.”

In her free time, Ms. Cox enjoy spending time with her family, watching movies and travelling on trips together.
