This week’s Welcome To Sanford Teacher of the Week is Michele Bursey, who works in preschool and learning centers at Warren Williams Elementary Alternative School. A graduate of East Carolina University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Birth through Kindergarten (BK) Teacher Education and a Masters of Arts in Education (BK) degree, Ms. Bursey is National Board Certified and currently pursuing her Doctorate in Educational Leadership. Ms. Bursey was honored in the 2016-17 school year as the Warren Williams Teacher Of The Year.
In the eyes of her colleagues, Ms. Bursey evokes the words of George Washington Carver, who said “Education is the key to unlocking the doors to freedom.” Ms. Bursey is recognized at the school for the strong educational foundation she provides for her students. She strives for creating positive lifelong learning experiences that can inspire enthusiasm and a sense of ownership for her children.
The passion she has for her students is always evident. Ms. Bursey comments, “Preschool is where my heart is! I love to teach young children and watch them grow. I believe all children are unique and can reach their fullest potential. I hope to create an environment where children feel secure, free to laugh, explore and learn through play. Our lesson plans are based on the interests of my students, so I always look forward to getting to know them.”
