Mary Beth Stec – Deep River Elementary School

Our Welcome To Sanford Lee County Teacher of the Week is Deep River Elementary School’s Mary Beth Stec, who was recently recognized as the school’s Teacher of the Year for 2017-18. Mrs. Stec is a second-grade teacher and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education, both from East Carolina University.

Mrs. Stec firmly believes that teaching gives educators the chance to create opportunities and change lives. “All students in my classroom are encouraged to become a better version of themselves. They are allowed to take chances and make mistakes and are exposed to intentional activities that encourage them to be lifelong learners.”

What Mrs. Stec would tell future educators about teaching is that you have to put your heart and soul into it in order to be successful. “It requires a lot of reflection, a lot of learning from your mistakes, a lot of patience and a lot of love. You might think that helping students learn is the most important part of your job, but the best surprise is that you will actually learn more from them than you could ever imagine. Teaching is a beautiful journey.”
