This week’s Welcome To Sanford Teacher of the Week is Martin Bryant of Southern Lee High School. Now in the midst of his 23rd year of teaching, Mr. Bryant holds a BS in Technology Education from Virginia Tech and teaches the Foundations and Applications of Engineering classes at Southern Lee. Mr. Bryant also serves as the school’s Director of the Academy of Engineering and is an advisor to the school’s Student Organization SkillsUSA program.
The highly acclaimed Academy of Engineering is affiliated with NAF (National Academy Foundation) and recently received recognition as a NAF Distinguished Academy. In the past, the academy has also been among just over 100 schools nationwide to be affiliated in the Lenovo Scholar Network.
Throughout the four year program, academy students are exposed to a multitude of experiences including engineering and drafting courses, participating in community service and presenting final projects to local business leaders. The students are heavily engaged in industry specific curriculum that engages in Manufacturing, Construction, Robotics, Architecture, Alternative Energy, Drafting with Solidworks and more.
Mr. Bryant is justifiably proud of the work of his students, noting “I am excited about this opportunity for students. By working with NAF, we try and provide some unique and great opportunities for our students, moving forward and preparing them for the future and to be job ready.”
