Our latest Welcome To Sanford Lee County Teacher of the Week is Maggie Womble, a third grade teacher from J. Glenn Edwards Elementary School. Mrs. Womble is wrapping up her eighth year of teaching at J. Glenn Edwards and holds a Bachelors of Science degree from East Carolina University. She also honored as the school’s Teacher of the Year for 2017-18.
Mrs. Womble brings enthusiasm to every class and student. Her mission is to touch every student’s life that walks through her door, and to provide each child with a fun year of learning. She observes, “Through my positivity and patience, I work hard to motivate and inspire my kids to be the best they can be, not only in the classroom, but also in the real world.”
As is often the case for teachers, Mrs. Womble’s inspiration and motivation to pursue a career in education came from the example of one of her teachers. Mrs. Womble remembers her kindergarten teacher Ms. Angel fondly, commenting. “She was the most loving, fun and caring teacher I ever had. When I was in the first grade, I was scared to go to school because I had a strict teacher who was the complete opposite of Ms. Angel. Ms. Angel would check on me daily and was always there for me even though I wasn’t ‘her student.’ Since first grade, I have always wanted to be the type of teacher to hopefully have the same impact on my students as Ms. Angel did for me.”
