Kimberly Barker — W.B. Wicker Elementary

Our Welcome To Sanford Teacher of the Week is Kimberly Barker, a third grade teacher at W.B. Wicker Elementary School. Ms. Barker grew up in the Tramway area and graduated from Lee County High School, before earning a B.A. degree in Elementary Education with specialization in Math & Reading at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Ms. Barker has been an educator since 1992, and her teaching career covers a wide range … preschool to high school, private learning and public schools.

Ms. Barker has a passion for teaching and especially loves working with third graders, commenting, “Third graders are my favorite age group to teach because of their excitement for learning new concepts and skills. Children enter third grade at various stages of academic growth. Our goal is to prepare each child for future success by providing the academic, social and organizational skills he or she will need to be successful in third grade and beyond!”

Ms. Barker also enjoys the opportunity to teach students in a multitude of subjects. She observes, “I get so excited about taking my students on a journey through reading, writing, spelling, math, science, and social studies. This is such a fun time and a year where we will see so much growth in reading, writing and math! Students will learn and practice listening and speaking skills, and will share their ideas with their peers and other students throughout our school. By the end of the year, our students will be competent in reading, multiplication, division, cursive writing, and so much more. Each child will have the opportunity to work independently and to collaborate with others. This year, I am expecting great progress for all of my diligent 3rd graders.”
