Kayla Chamberlain – Broadway Elementary

Our latest Welcome To Sanford Teacher of the Week is Kayla Chamberlain, the art teacher at Broadway Elementary School. Mrs. Chamberlain is a New Jersey native who holds a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts Education, a Masters Degree in Educational Curriculum & Instruction, with a Concentration in Educational Leadership, and an Advanced Standing Certificate of Eligibility to Teach. After beginning her teaching career in New England, Mrs. Chamberlain moved to North Carolina in the summer of 2019 and began teaching at Broadway Elementary.

Mrs. Chamberlain is already earning a great reputation at Broadway, where she has earned staffer of the month recognition, and has been saluted for her willingness to help with extra activities, even with short notice. Mrs. Chamberlain is becoming known for her supportiveness of her students and the staff, spreading creativity throughout the school and even painting murals in the hallways and classroom. The feeling is mutual, as Mrs. Chamberlain comments, “I absolutely love it here!”

Mrs. Chamberlain has passions both for art and for teaching.  She notes, “I love making art, but most of all I love teaching and investing in the lives of my students. I strongly believe that I can become a better teacher through communication and collaboration. It is my goal for all students to leave art with the ability to think critically, creatively solve problems, confidently create their own artwork, and appreciate art in the world around them.”

Just as she values the diversity of artwork and teaching, Mrs. Chamberlain’s actual artistry covers a wide range. She observes, “I love working with any medium in art: paint, clay, metal, charcoal… the list goes on and on! I also am very interested in the brain, and learning about how we learn. I strongly believe in the impact of relationships and art in one’s life, and bring this belief into my classroom daily.”  In her spare time, Mrs. Chamberlain enjoys playing sports, reading, spending time with friends and family, and trying out new restaurants.

As a special note, this summer Mrs. Chamberlain is taking on a new activity!  She’ll be posting YouTube videos on her channel, of art projects that kids can do during summer.
