Karen Voelz – East Lee Middle School

Our Welcome To Sanford Lee County Teacher of the Week is Karen Voelz, math teacher at East Lee Middle School. Mrs. Voelz has been an accomplished teacher in Lee County Schools for over 25 years. She’s in her fourth year at East Lee, following extensive tenures at West Lee Middle School and Lee County High School. In the present school year. Mrs. Voelz has also been actively involved in the Space Ranger Team at East Lee. Mrs. Voelz is a proud graduate of North Carolina State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics Education.

One of Mrs. Voelz’s favorite quotations comes from Henry Brooks Adams, who said “A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops.” Mrs. Voelz believes a good relationship between a teacher and their students also sets the tone for a classroom community. She comments, “It is important to me that I provide a classroom that is welcoming and accessible for all students.” Mrs. Voelz also notes that her students have been very diligent with their online math assignments during this remote learning time frame.

When she’s not in the classroom, Mrs. Voelz enjoys spending time with her family, relaxing at the beach and going to see the Wolfpack play football, baseball and basketball.
