Karen Rushatz

Our Welcome To Sanford Artist of the Week is Karen Rushatz. Karen is a long-standing and dedicated member of the Sanford Brush & Palette Club, where she chaired the annual art show for 2 years and has served as an active chair of numerous other committees during her time in the organization. A New York native, Karen and her family have been North Carolina residents since 1989.

Karen is a self-taught artist who enjoys experimenting with color, texture and composition. Her preferred mediums include drawing, watercolors and acrylics, and she’s even dabbled in 3D recycled art. Karen comments, “I love to create bold and expressive pieces of art. Color and texture are 2 of my best friends. Creating art makes me happy.”

Karen’s hope is that the viewer gets drawn in and becomes captivated by the variety of textures, lines, and colors that are found in her work. She enjoys incorporating textured surfaces into her pieces, so that tactile engagement can become an additional element of the viewing experience.

Karen’s work was notably featured at the Temple Theatre during the performance run of Clue: The Musical in 2017, and has also been shown at a wide range of other locales throughout the region, including galleries & art studios, restaurants and even country clubs. Karen has also been a mainstay participant in the Sanford Brush & Palette Club’s Annual Art Shows in recent years. She’s won numerous awards and acclamations, including a Best of Show recognition in 2015.

You can see more of Karen’s work at her Art By Karen Rushatz Facebook page and her website. Karen can also be contacted at [email protected] to discuss purchases of her artwork and related matters.
