Julie McNeill is a Business & Marketing teacher and a driving force behind two significant programs at Southern Lee High School, where she was also honored as the 2016-17 Teacher Of The Year. She hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Business & Marketing Education and a Master’s in Business Education, both from East Carolina University.
While on staff at Southern Lee, Ms. McNeill was named the director of the school’s innovative National Academy Foundation’s Hospitality and Tourism Academy. The academy is incorporated into the school’s general curriculum and exposes its students to a wide range of experiences and skills in areas such as customer service, event planning, sustainable tourism, finance, and public speaking. As director, Ms. McNeill continues to teach in the classroom while coordinating professional work-based learning opportunities for her academy students.
Ms. McNeill is also the head advisor for Southern Lee’s DECA (Distributive Education Club of America) chapter. This competitive marketing club helps prepare young leaders and entrepreneurs in areas such as marketing, finance, hospitality and management. Under Ms. McNeill’s guidance, the Southern Lee club has grown to become one of the 20 largest chapters in the state and qualified 11 team members to participate in DECA International Competition in April 2017.
