This week’s Welcome To Sanford Teacher of the Week is Andrew Ard, from J.R. Ingram Elementary School. Mr. Ard has been the Eagles’ Physical Education Teacher for the past 19 years. A native of Pennsylvania, Mr. Ard holds both a B.S. in Health & Physical Education and certification as a Safety & Drivers Education Teacher from Lock Haven University. After beginning his teaching career in Pennsylvania for 4 years, Mr. Ard moved to North Carolina. He was a middle school teacher for 5 years, before becoming part of the Ingram family.
Mr. Ard strongly supports the adage to “Get at least 60 minutes of exercise every day!” He has coached six different sports at both the middle school and high school levels over the years. In the 2012-13 school year, Mr. Ard was recognized as the J. R. Ingram Elementary School Teacher of the Year.
In the time frame of distance learning, Mr. Ard worked hard to keep his students active and exercising. His school web page included several work out and dance videos for all ages and he even issued a special Jump Rope Challenge for students in every grade.
A favorite quote of Mr. Ard’s comes from American Historian Henry Brooks Adams, who observed, “A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops.” This philosophy is evident in Mr. Ard’s family. His wife Pamela is a literacy teacher at J.R. Ingram and one of his two children is also a teacher.
