Our latest Welcome To Sanford Teacher of the Week is Jenna Sanders from Lee Early College. Mrs. Sanders teaches Honors Math and Statistics at LEC, and also serves as an advisor for a club at the school that is tasked with planning school events. Mrs. Sanders holds B.S. degrees in Mathematics Education and in Statistics from North Carolina State University. She’s also earned a Masters in Mathematics Education from NCSU. Mrs. Sanders has been teaching at LEC since January 2012 and was recently honored as Lee Early College Teacher of the Year for 2019-20.
Mrs. Sanders is a strong believer in engaging her students and encouraging their full participation in the learning process. She comments, “I enjoy teaching high school math and I believe that all students are capable of learning math. I think students tend to do best when they have a positive attitude and a willingness to work hard, so I encourage students to ask questions during class, and stay after school for tutoring if they need extra help.”
Mrs. Sanders credits her students’ persistence in the aftermath of what she describes as “the weirdest semester thus far for all of us.” She adds, “I am proud of all the students for finishing up and hope it was a positive experience.”
In her spare time, Mrs. Sanders enjoys reading, spending time with her husband, family and friends, listening to all types of music, traveling to new places and trying new recipes.
