Sanford’s first, much-anticipated craft brewery continues to make progress on its way to opening before the end of 2017. Hugger Mugger is scheduled to make it’s debut for Sanford’s thirsty population sometime between Thanksgiving and Christmas at its new location at 229 Wicker Street, on the block between South Steele and Horner Boulevard.
Owners Tim Emmert and David McComas are planning to operate a 15-barrel brewery at their facility, which prospered in previous era as a grocery store and auto parts store. They envision offering up to 2 dozen taps in their bar room that will include diverse options such as sours and fruit beers, as well as a good selection of sodas, energy drinks and European wines.
In a recent Sanford Herald Hugger Mugger interview, Emmert noted “Sanford has really good demographics … I feel like it is a really well-kept secret. You also have the sense that there is something happening in Sanford. While we are doing this project, we are hearing about all of these other projects that are going to happen two or three years down the road. The development of Sanford is going on pretty quickly for such a small area, and it’s exciting. We kind of picked it for cold, non-romantic reasons, but as we went through the process, we started to see what a lot of people were seeing — that there is a lot going on, and that it is going to be an exciting four or five years for this place.”
