We hope everyone enjoyed Streetfest last weekend. Thank you everyone for its success! This week we are focusing on an interesting and historical event taking place that offers the opportunity for your family to come learn more about the history of Sanford.
This Saturday, North Carolina Historic Sites will be hosting an event at House in the Horseshoe. At the beginning of the 19th century NC gov. Benjamin Williams became the newest owner of the house and its surrounding property that he named “Retreat”. This event will show its visitors a different side of the site’s history. This was a time where farming cotton was a scientific venture, politics sometimes led to violence, and slavery was the cornerstone of the economy. Visitors will experience a recreated pistol duel and learn more about cotton farming.
The event is free and will have demonstrations, activities, and lectures throughout the day. The events start at 11am and go until 4pm. A full schedule of events can be found on the Facebook page linked above.
House in the Horseshoe is located at 288 Alston House Rd, Sanford, NC 27330.
We hope everyone has an excellent Easter weekend. Check back next week for more fun activities.
