Healthy Foods CAN Be All Fun & Games

As we noted last week, this is the time of year when children are most likely to get their hands of lots of candy and other sweets.  But why not also take an opportunity to start reminding our kids about the importance of nutrition and health eating?  The government’s website has assembled a variety of fun ways to get children to think about eating healthy. You can click here for the full list of Children’s Nutrition Games.  Here are some of the highlights.

MyPlate Blast Off Game – this interactive game motivates kids to achieve Planet Power, by fueling their personal rockets through food and physical activities. Topics are customized to each child’s age and gender.

SuperTracker – is a great way for kids to create and monitor their own personalized nutrition and physical activities. The program even includes tips and support to help children achieve their goals.

MyPlate Grocery Store Bingo – Ideal for younger kids who come along for grocery shopping. They learn about specific types of foods and look for them in the store.

BAM! Body And Mind – has a super heroes theme and is intended for 9-12 year olds.  Kids participate with games and quizzes to learn more about physical activities and nutrition, as well as safety and diseases.

There’s no reason not to help our children learn more about the importance of nutrition, food groups and health eating … especially when they can have fun in the process!
