Our Throwback Thursday adventures continue with our recent “return to school” theme. This week, let’s drop in on some student leaders from the past. We begin with a visit to Sanford Central High School, Class of 1977. It seems clear that the school had a robust music program at the time. Our first picture features no less than 8 students who received All-State recognition in band.
If we stay in the same location but travel further back in time by 20 years, we arrive in time to visit with the Sanford Central Class of 1957. Here’s what leadership looked like a little over 6 decades ago. It appears that school officials are trying to determine if the student officers can “measure up” to their responsibilities.
As we noted last week, the late 1970s is the time frame in county school history just before the “city school” Sanford Central, and the county’s small community schools (Greenwood, Broadway, Deep River) merged to create Lee County High School. Here we see the senior class officers at Greenwood High School in 1976.
The 2004-05 Boys Basketball team at Grace Christian School, under the direction of coaches Tim and Shelby Murr won the 3-A NCCSA state championship. The squad finished with an overall record of 27 wins and 5 losses also advanced to the national tournament, where they finished 3rd in their division.
