Gaynell McIver – J. Glenn Edwards Elementary

This week’s Welcome To Sanford Teacher of the Week is Gaynell McIver, a second grade teacher at J. Glenn Edwards Elementary School.  Mrs. McIver is a native of Kingsport, Tennessee and a long-standing resident of the state of North Carolina. She is a graduate of Bennett College and also holds a Masters of Education degree from Fayetteville State University. In her 4-decade teaching tenure, Mrs. McIver has been a first grade, second grade and reading teacher.

Mrs. McIver was recently honored as the 2019-20 J. Glenn Edwards Elementary School Teacher of the Year. School Principal Dr. Natalie Kelly shares these accolades, commenting, “Please allow me to be candid and sum up Mrs. McIver as an energetic 2nd grade teacher that exudes love and compassion towards every single child she meets. Mrs McIver is an inspiring leader, to both her students and her colleagues, and her love for learning is an inspiration to us all. We are proud to have Mrs. Gaynell McIver represent J Glenn Edwards as our Teacher of the Year!”

Mrs. McIver has very straightforward expectations for her students, that can be easily summed up … Be Prepared. Be Responsible. Be Respectful. The affection she has for her students is enthusiastically reciprocated by pupils and parents alike. One parent shared her thoughts on Facebook, noting “She is a sweet lady & dedicated teacher. Any Lee County School student that she taught was fortunate to have her as their teacher.” Another Facebook parent comment was equally complimentary, stating “Mrs.McIver is hands down the most amazing teacher my child has ever had. She has the most giving and gentle soul of anyone I have ever known. I could not think of anyone more deserving of this award. She deserves so much more. We love you Mrs. McIver!”
