Our Welcome To Sanford Lee County Teacher of the Week is Ms. Brittni Delmaine of Lee Early College. Recently also honored as the school’s 2017-18 Teacher of the Year, Ms. Delmaine is an English teacher and holds a Bachelor of Science in English, Secondary Education from Appalachian State University.
In her Teacher of the Year bio, peers of Ms. Delmaine had a lot to say about her. “Bubbly. Bright. Beloved. Brittni Delmaine is all of these things and more! Brittni truly stands out among her peers and exemplifies what it means to be an incredible teacher leader. Her effervescent personality is contagious and is one of the things that make LEC such an amazing place to work and learn. She is ALWAYS positive! It is impossible to be around her and not want to smile. She uses this energy to motivate students to become their best selves. She leads by example; demonstrating a commitment to excellence in all her endeavors.”
In addition to teaching her students during the school day, Ms. Delmaine also supports them after and outside of school. She is the advisor for drama, show choir, speech and debate clubs, and serves as a co-advisor for beta club. Ms. Delmaine also participates in the Lee County Communty Orchestra and attends monthly poetry sessions at Karma Café, where she encourages her students to share their poetic talents. She is also a member of LEC’s safety and public relations committees.
Ms. Delmaine would tell incoming teachers that the best advice she has received as a teacher: your students come first. “Teaching is not for your glory or for the glory of those above you, but for the students. A teacher has to be able to assess where the students are, meet them there and find ways to taken them up the next steps. A teacher has to be able to navigate the seemingly endless changes and innovations in standards and initiatives in order to communicate the essence of those in order to benefit the students.”
