Big Bloomers Flower Farm

While we might’ve just seen snow, it feels like Spring weather is just around the corner here in Sanford. That’s why our Welcome to Sanford Business of the Week is Big Bloomers Flower Farm! Big Bloomers Flower Farm first opened as “Wenger’s Greenhouses” on Hawkins Avenue back in 1978, and moved to their current, larger location in 1994.

The majority of Big Bloomers sales are from the “green goods” grown in their 17 on-site greenhouses. Owners John and Gail Foushee pride themselves on having one of the largest selections of annuals, perennials, and herbs in the southeast, as well as large variety of shrubs, seasonal crops, and other, more unusual plants. This month on their Facebook page they have featured seasonal crops such as the succulent Agave Quadricolor, the aptly Photo By Los Cardinalos at https://www.flickr.com/photos/18551068@N00/11737303named Spring flower “Snow Day Surprise,” and the flowering shrub Loropetalum Ruby. They also sell pottery, garden statues, fountains and other garden related products in their 3,000 square foot garden shop.

Big Bloomers Flower Farm is open year-round, every single day except for January 1, July 4, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. They are open 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM Mondays through Saturdays and 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Sundays at 275 Pressly Foushee Road in Sanford. Visit their website to learn more, and follow them on Facebook for the latest updates on new plants and products.
