Beulah Palmer — Southern Lee High

Our first 2021 Welcome To Sanford Lee County Teacher of the Week is Beulah Palmer of Southern Lee High School. Mrs. Palmer has a Bachelor’s Degree from North Carolina Central University and has been teaching for more than 15 years. She’s been a math teacher at Southern Lee since 2015 and in the current school year she is teaching Math I and Foundations of Math. Mrs. Palmer was recognized as the school’s 2017-18 Teacher of the Year.

Mrs. Palmer affectionately refers to her classroom as the “House of Love.” Any student who has had the privilege to learn there definitely feels loved and appreciated. Her students often refer to her as “Mama Palmer” and she certainly embodies the characteristics of a loving mother; showing love when students are successful and sometimes instilling fear when they are choosing the wrong path.

Mrs. Palmer places a major emphasis on the importance of forming positive, meaningful relationships with her students. It’s no surprise that her teaching philosophy is expressed simply and succinctly when she says “love the children.”

To anyone considering a career in education, Mrs. Palmer is quick to say that your heart must be in it. She observes, “Teaching is a profession of the heart, and if you stay in it, I promise you that you will see the fruits of your labor.”
