Beulah Palmer – Southern Lee High School

Our Welcome To Sanford Lee County Teacher of the Week is Mrs. Beulah Palmer of Southern Lee High School. Mrs. Palmer, a math teacher at SLHS since 2015, was recently recognized as the school’s 2017-18 Teacher of the Year. She has a Bachelor’s of Business Administration degree from North Carolina Central University and has been teaching for more than 15 years.

Mrs. Palmer affectionately refers to her classroom as the “House of Love” and any student who has had the privilege to be in her classroom certainly feels loved and appreciated. Her students often refer to her as “Mama Palmer” and she certainly embodies the characteristics of a loving mother; showing love when students are successful and sometimes instilling fear when they are choosing the wrong path. She understands the importance of forming positive, meaningful relationships with students, which goes hand in hand with her teaching philosophy, “love the children.”

To anyone considering a career in education, Mrs. Palmer is quick to say that your heart must be in it. “Teaching is a profession of the heart,” stated Mrs. Palmer, “and if you stay in it, I promise you that you will see the fruits of your labor.”
