Once every blue moon or so, a local band of musicians with a similar sounding name makes a memorable appearance to perform somewhere in the area. That band, and our latest Welcome To Sanford Artist of the Week is Bad Moon Rising. BMR is an assembly of 5 well-known local musicians, who enjoying playing together a few times a year, and pay tribute to Creedence Clearwater Revival and other classic rock stalwarts. The band loves the music they play, and honors it by playing live versions that are as close to the original songs as possible.
Bad Moon Rising is comprised of five members: David Spivey (bass) & Chad Spivey (guitar/harmonica/vocals) are father and son, Paul Cox (drums), David Watson (lead guitar), and Jeremy Strothers (lead vocals) complete the lineup. It’s also not uncommon to see combinations of these and other artists performing in other local bands on a regular basis, but this is a lineup that each performer looks forward to. According to David Spivey, “We are all friends and everyone in the band plays in other bands also. We got together a few years ago to do a CCR show and we loved it so much that we decided to make it a point to do it at least once every year somewhere.”
One such appearance took place last Thursday at the Camelback Brewing Company, as part of a pork barbeque appreciation event for the Deep River Park Association. We’ve secured nearly 30 minutes of their set list for your viewing and listening pleasure, compliments of our friends at Brick Capital Video (whose You Tube Channel is filled with video from several local events).
Among other notable live shows in the recent past for BMR were a concert last summer at Depot Park that featured native son Britton Buchanan as a guest performer, and the group’s sizzling set at the 2018 Arts & Vine Series Beach Music Concert at the Mann Center of North Carolina.
What’s next? At the moment, it’s a concert in the Pomeranz Auditorium at the Mann Center on October 25. If you have an interest in seeing BMR sooner than that, contact Jeremy Strothers or Chad Spivey for booking information.
