April Richardson – Tramway Elementary

Our Welcome To Sanford Teacher of the Week is April Richardson of Tramway Elementary School. Mrs. Richardson teaches first grade and has been part of the Tigershark family for 15 years. She graduated from St. Andrews Presbyterian College with a degree in elementary education and holds a Masters Degree in Reading Education from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. Mrs. Richardson also recently became a National Board Certified Teacher and used that process as a learning experience for her and her students.

Mrs. Richardson recalls, “I don’t know if they truly understood how rigorous the process was and how stressful it was, but they did understand that I was in school to become a better teacher for them. They would encourage me and help me in any way with the ideas and lessons that I was teaching during the process.”

It’s very fair to say that teaching is a true passion for Mrs. Richardson … both for the students she currently educates and those individuals she may be able to help in the future.  She comments, “I love teaching and I love making a difference in each child’s life. I can’t wait to see what the future holds as an educator. I would love to see myself teaching educators in staff developments, be a professor for early childhood or in reading. For now, I am seeking ways to help those that are going through the National Board Certification so that I can help them with being successful in achieving their certification.”
