Our Welcome To Sanford Lee County Teacher of the Week is Mrs. Amy Perozo of Broadway Elementary School. Mrs. Perozo, reading specialist for first-through-fourth grades, is a 13-year veteran teacher, all of which have been at Broadway. The Broadway Elementary Teacher of the Year in 2013-14 — which is the accomplishment she’s proudest of — holds a bachelor’s degree in history with a concentration in elementary education from SUNY Brockport and a master’s in curriculum and instruction from the University of Phoenix.
The philosophy Mrs. Perozo teaches by has an emphasis on long-term success. “My goal as a reading specialist is not only to help struggling students become more successful readers, but also to instill confidence to become life-long learners. Motivating students to be the best that they can be is very important to me.”
Mrs. Perozo believes her colleagues would describe her as hardworking and organized, but in her free time, she likes to focus on family and fun. “I enjoy spending time with my husband and two boys, Aiden and Austin. We love to watch movies, shop and play with our English bulldog, Luna.”
