A Sunday Stroll Through Sanford

After the madness of the holidays, it can be nice to take a weekend to yourself and enjoy some personal time. If you haven’t explored downtown Sanford in a long time, or if you’re new to the area, the Downtown Sanford Walking Tour can be a great way to get some exercise and see the area.

The tour, produced by Downtown Sanford, Inc and the Travel & Tourism Committee of the Sanford Area Chamber of Commerce, takes you to some of the most interesting historic locations in downtown Sanford.

While you’re on the walking tour, you’ll pass by the historic Temple Theatre, which was first opened in 1925 and continues to have regular theater shows today! Next Thursday “The Last Five Years,” the Temple Theatre’s first show of 2020, will open. This musical show follows the lives of two young adults in New York who fall in and out of love over the course of five years. If it sounds familiar, that’s because there was a 2014 film adaptation with Anna Kendrick and Jeremy Jordan. Make sure to check this show out during its run from January 9th – January 19th. You can get tickets at this link.

The walking tour also takes you to Sanford’s Depot Park and the Railroad house, which are home to many downtown Sanford events, such as the annual Depot Park Train & Tree Lighting. While you’re there, take note of the three new sculptures from local artist Jason Morris. Morris creates his sculptures from found materials such as gas cans, iron chains and car hoods.

There is so much to see in downtown Sanford, and if the weather clears up this Sunday is the perfect time to see it! Visit this link to see the full list of stops on the walking tour and download a map to go along with it. As always, check back here every Friday to see the latest updates on Sanford events! Here’s to a great start to 2020!
