This week’s Welcome to Sanford Business of the Week is The Cotton Lily, a brand new boutique which opened last month in the Steele St. Mall. The Cotton Lily sells an eclectic mix of vintage items ranging from 1960s and 70s home decor and kitchenware to clothing from as far back as the 1920s. They also sell handcrafted items made by local artisans, including handmade soaps, body scrubs and custom decorative wooden boards.
The Cotton Lily is owned by Harnett county natives Sherrie Eichelberger and her daughter Charis Miller. Sherrie has always loved finding, collecting, and reselling unique vintage items, and has always dreamed of opening her own store to sell them. After seeing the recent boom in Downtown Sanford business, Sherrie and her daughter decided that now was the time to make that dream a reality. Each piece at The Cotton Lily is uniquely selected by Sherrie, who find them at estate sales or online. The Cotton Lily has many one-of-a-kind decorations and furniture you would not be able to find at any other store in Sanford or beyond!
Despite the current situation, their first month in business has exceeded their expectations with online marketing and walk-by foot traffic downtown driving substantial business amidst the pandemic.
Charis is excited for the future of The Cotton Lily, hoping to eventually expand into a larger space which would allow them to serve their sourced tea in their shop and hold events such as crafting classes at night.
The Cotton Lily can be found at the Steele St. Mall, 144 S Steele St. They are open Tuesday – Friday 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Saturday 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. They offer discounts to first respondents, military, senior citizens and teachers.
