Our latest Welcome To Sanford Teacher of the Week is Shanna Roberts of Southern Lee High School. Recently recognized as the SLHS 2019-20 Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Roberts just completed her 15th year of teaching at Lee County Schools. After teaching at West Lee Middle School for four years, she transferred to Southern Lee, where she serves as the Career & Technical Education – Business teacher. In her tenure at SLHS, she’s taught Multimedia and Web Page Design, E-Commerce Honors, Digital Media and Microsoft Imagine Academy’s Word & PowerPoint. She’s served at the Advisor of the school’s National Technical Honor Society and is also Southern’s webpage manager as well as the media coordinator for the Cavalier Connection, which is displayed in the school cafeteria.
A native of Alabama, Mrs. Roberts is a proud and enthusiastic graduate of Auburn University, where she earned a BS in Business Management. She also holds an MBA from Troy University (also in Alabama). While at Auburn, Mrs. Roberts joined the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. These days, she serves as an advisor for the KKG chapter at NC State University. Mrs. Roberts is a die-hard sports fan, where the Southern Cavaliers, Auburn and the Carolina Panthers earn her greatest loyalty. She also enjoys photography, reading and travel.
When the recent pandemic forced students, teachers, parents and families to transition to learning from home, Mrs. Roberts encouraged her students to embrace the “new reality” with a positive outlook. Her guidance included these recommendations, “Have a great attitude at home. Lessen your parents’ stress by doing your class work and making your education the top priority. You have the opportunity to do what no other students have ever faced in the last 50 years. Make every decision count. Make the right choices. Allow this time to shape your future. You’ll surprise yourself, but only by doing the work and being accountable.”
