Our latest Welcome To Sanford Teacher of the Week is Gwendolyn Quadri from West Lee Middle School. Mrs. Quadri is in her 8th year as an ESL teacher and has been part of the West Lee family for the past 5 years. She holds a bachelors of arts degree from North Carolina A&T State University, an M.Ed. from Liberty University and a TESOL (teaching of English for speakers of other languages) Certification from East Carolina University.
Mrs. Quadri embraces the important role she plays in helping students and their families assimilate into the community and views the process as a total team effort, commenting “I enjoy working with my students and their families to help them improve their English. My philosophy is that teachers, parents and students are important for student success and I keep a close relationship with my colleagues and parents so that our students will succeed.” Mrs. Quadri also emphasizes the importance of communication, as a key component in a student’s degree of success. She observes, “By stating my expectations early and being consistent with my parents and students, they don’t have to worry about ‘what do I need to be successful in Mrs. Quadri’s class?’”
When asked about the teaching accomplishment that gives her the greatest satisfaction, Mrs. Quadri returns to the relationships she builds with her students and the impact that can have in their future. When her former students graduate from high school and mark their places in the world, it serves as validation that efforts by all parties were worth it.
Mrs. Quadri believes her colleagues would describe her as determined, compassionate and hard working, noting “I always aim to do my best and to grow as a person and educator.” In her free time, Mrs. Quadri enjoys spending time with her family, travelling and learning new languages.
