Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic we are putting our Fun-day Friday column on hold. In the meantime, we will be bringing back our Artists Of The Week column! If you, or someone you know, is deserving of recognition, please click here, or on the Artist of Week badge and fill out a nomination document.
Our Welcome to Sanford Artist of the Week is Carolyn Rotter, who has enjoyed a remarkable career, both as a practicing artist and as an art educator.
A Sanford resident for over a decade, Carolyn is active in the Sanford Brush & Palette Club, where she has served as art show chairperson for 3 years, Vice President for 3 years and in many other capacities. Carolyn has received recognition through Peer Choice and Viewers Choice awards at annual shows over the years. Her painting Midtown Showers (pictured here) was awarded Best in Show at the 2017 Sanford Brush & Palette Club’s annual show.
Carolyn is also a member of the Women Painters of the Southeast organization and is represented at The Little Art Gallery in Raleigh. Her works have been accepted into several juried competitions nationally, have earned numerous awards and are cherished in many private and corporate collections throughout the United States.
Carolyn taught art at a local school on her native Long Island for over 30 years and earned several accolades, including a PTA Lifetime Achievement Award for her work with students. During her teaching tenure, Carolyn also earned notoriety for the many murals she painted on school walls over the years. Carolyn LOVES every aspect of art, commenting “I am passionate about art. Whether I am viewing it, creating it, and even teaching it – it’s all pretty wonderful. I never doubted I would pursue a life in art and I feel very fortunate to be able to say that.”
Carolyn is very busy, working from her home studio here in Sanford. She teaches painting as a way to help students find their fulfillment in art, continues to have her art displayed in galleries and shows, and does commissioned projects, including work with interior designers, where she often recreates paintings to fit the specific space and ambient qualities of the home where the work will be showcased.
Artist of the Week is a feature that is devoted to Sanford’s dynamic arts community and the hundreds of talented individuals who are a part of it. Painters — potters — performing artists — musicians and much more! If you, or someone you know, is deserving of recognition, please click here, or on the Artist of Week badge and fill out a nomination document.
