For the second straight year, the City of Sanford has earned national recognition as a leading location for business startups. WalletHub’s annual survey of over 1,200 small-sized cities ranks Sanford 27th in the country, among the best places to start and grow a new business. This report is generated through the efforts of a panel of business experts and considers 18 factors such as investor access, labor costs, customer & community relations, and overhead expenses, to determine the viability of each city studied.
Of significant note, Sanford ranks 8th in the entire country for business cost, indicating that the environment for building and growing a young business is especially strong in our local community. Wilson and Salisbury are the only North Carolina cities that rank higher than Sanford in the survey. 4 North Carolina cities rank in the top 50; 10 are listed in the top 100. Notable for their absence near the top of the list, are Wake County communities such as Cary, Apex and Wake Forest, where real estate and overall operational costs are considerably higher than Sanford. Sanford also placed 15th overall in the 2018 Wallethub survey.
