Our Welcome To Sanford Lee County Teacher of the Week is Mrs. Lora Currin, a first-grade teacher at Broadway Elementary School, where she was recognized as the school’s 2017-18 Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Currin is a graduate of Lee County High School and the University of North Carolina at Pembroke with a Bachelor’s Degree in Birth to Kindergarten Education with certifications in special education and elementary education (K-6). She has been a part of the Wildcat team for five of her 17-years’ teaching career.
Mrs. Currin’s goal is to teach her students to be as passionate about learning as she is. She feels a teacher that loves teaching, teaches children to love learning. “I believe if you are a teacher who is passionate about teaching and enjoys coming to work every day, the students you teach will feel passion, and become fully immersed in the learning experience you are providing.”
Mrs. Currin’s advice to other teachers is to always remember that you may be the only positive role model that your students encounter during their day. She comments, “children want and need boundaries with the balance of emotional support and encouragement. Not all children are alike, but all will feel your passion for teaching, if you have that inside of you.”
