Our Welcome To Sanford Lee County Teacher of the Week is Gwendolyn Quadri of West Lee Middle School. Mrs. Quadri is an English as a Second Language and Language Arts teacher for grades 6-8, and has been a part of the West Lee Pride for three of her seven-year teaching career. She holds a bachelors of arts from North Carolina A&T State University, an M.Ed. from Liberty University and a TESOL (teaching of English for speakers of other languages) Certification from East Carolina University.
Mrs. Quadri’s teaching philosophy stems from her belief that it takes a community to educate a child. “That is why I believe in having a strong communication with my colleagues, parents and students to give our students the best opportunities to be successful. By stating my expectations early and being consistent with my parents and students, they don’t have to worry about ‘what do I need to be successful in Mrs. Quadri’s class?’”
The accomplishment that Mrs. Quadri is proudest of is when she has the opportunity to see her former students graduate from high school and mark their places in the world. She believes her colleagues would describe her as determined, compassionate and hard working. “I always aim to do my best and to grow as a person and educator.”
In her free time, Mrs. Quadri enjoys spending time with her daughter, Halima, and husband, Kola. She also loves to travel the world — Abu Dhabi is next on her list — and learning new languages such as Spanish and Yoruba.
Mrs. Quadri also wants the community to know that she tries to be the best model for her students. “I am currently pursuing my principal license and my students make sure that I do my best because they want me to succeed. It makes me feel proud when they want me to accomplish my goals and they ask me how I am doing in my classes. It really shows me that they care.”
