Our Welcome To Sanford Lee County Teacher of the Week is Jayme Edwards of J. Glenn Edwards Elementary School. Mrs. Edwards liked JGE so much when she first started her teaching career eight years ago that she’s been with the school ever since. Mrs. Edwards is a third-grade teacher and teaches not one, not two, but all subjects. Previously she taught first grade in all subjects as well. Mrs. Edwards graduated cum laude from Wingate University with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and holds a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Mrs. Edwards feels that she needs to have a growth mindset so that she may continue learning and modeling for her students. “My hope is that all my students come to love learning through my enthusiasm, hands-on activities, passion, laughter and love. I believe all students can learn and I make sure all students believe in themselves as individuals and learners as much as I believe in each of them.”
Passionate, caring and dedicated are words Mrs. Edwards said her peers would use to describe her. But if you ask the JGE Administrative Team, they would sum her up as an energetic, smiling teacher who exudes positivity and love towards every single child she meets. Even more specifically, “Jayme Edwards is a shining light! Not only is she a bright light in the lives of her students, she also seeks the light in everyone she works with. Jayme is a shining light that inspires both adults and children alike.”
But if you ask Mrs. Edwards’ students “what makes Mrs. Edwards such a special teacher?” you will overwhelmingly hear responses of “she loves me,” “she is so nice,” “she is so fun,” “she doesn’t yell” and “she helps me so much!
