Sanford’s Central Carolina Hospital has named veteran hospital executive and interim CEO Spencer Thomas to the position of hospital CEO. Thomas brings 16 years of healthcare industry experience to his new role at CCH and has served in the interim CEO position since October 2017.
Prior to joining CCH, Thomas served as Chief Operating Officer of Sovah Health – Danville, VA, where he played a central role in the formation of Sovah Health, a south central Virginia two-hospital system comprised of the Danville campus and Sovah Health – Martinsville. Before working at Sovah Health – Danville, Thomas served as CEO of Tennova Newport Medical Center, in Newport, TN, and as COO of East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro, GA. Thomas holds a Master of Healthcare Administration degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA, and a bachelor’s degree from Hampden-Sydney College in Hampden Sydney, VA.
Thomas looks forward leveraging his extensive community hospital leadership experiences in helping Central Carolina Hospital serve the region and achieve its full potential. Thomas observes, “CCH is a truly remarkable hospital, and I’m thrilled to stay on in a permanent role. I have enjoyed meeting and forming relationships with the hospital’s amazing physicians and staff, and thank the people of the Sanford community for welcoming me so readily into the community. CCH Board of Directors Chairman Bill Murphy views Thomas’ appointment as a key development for Central Carolina Hospital, noting “When Spencer joined the CCH team in October, we instantly knew that he was a great fit to lead this hospital.
