The Central Carolina Community College Confucius Classroom will present a concert of traditional Chinese music featuring the Xiangyang Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, at the Dennis A. Wicker Civic Center, Friday evening August 11 at 6pm. Admission is free and the public is encouraged to attend this special event.
The Chinese youth orchestra numbers 17 musicians and is in the midst of a 2-week American visit. The group will be touring in Washington DC, New York, Los Angeles and Raleigh, and will perform at locations throughout the country, from California to Carolina.
CCCC’s Confucius Classroom is an innovative partnership with NC State’s Confucius Institute, which works with the Chinese government to bring a wide range of artists and performaners from China to the United States. CCCC became the first community college in the country to create a Confucius Classroom.
CCCC President T. Eston Marchant played a role in developing the program when he arrived in 2008, and notes, “Our Confucius Classroom enables the college to prepare our students for living and working in a global economy. It helps link our central North Carolina communities, governments and businesses with China.”
